You need to download both of the WMA codec packages from the site.įor playback I use Winamp - not sure which version (it's on my home PC and I'm currently at work). I was pointed to dBpowerAmp - their file conversion tool supports WMA9 encoding & decoding on Win98SE at least - may also work on 95 and 98. The encoder downloads from Microsoft needed ME or higher to install. I asked a similar question recently, but specifically for encoding to WMA9 on Windows 98SE. So I wanted to know if there is any way for me to play WMA9 files on Windows 98 (not win98se), and is there any WMA9 codec available for Winamp 2.x or Winamp 5.03? I also tried downloading optional WMA9 codec pack for Media Player 6.4, but it wont work again! Quote I downloaded the Windows Media Player 9 (WIN98 installation), but it says that it can be installed only on win98se and higher. but for what I am using my box for I prefer WinME always said that and will always follow it. Also I do realise why XP/2000 is better in alot of ways. Thats my 2cents on that topic, as I don't see why uptime is so important on a home computer, a lot of people use that excuse to say why XP/2000 is better. it saves the environment and yoru pocket as well. you should really turn them off when your not using them. my notebook runs WinME and it runs perfectly fine although it does slow down when alot of things are happening as well.įor those who like to leave their computer on.

I have not yet encountered someone that has managed to tell me something otherwise. Also I have no issue running anything at all as well. also you must learn to avoid upgrading driver as soon as a new one is released that really borks a system IMHO. Its stable if you know how to install and have correct drivers. thats with my Internet apps (torrents and such) running, while encoding files for testing. so far I have had it up for around 1.5 days without it doing anything major. Its not as bad as they make it out to be.
